woo hoo

got my 94 aerostar a few months back for 650.00...imacculate condition..just needed some interior TLC, I thought...did that...175000 miles...right rear brake froze open which started my education on this vehicle...with the help of a manual, your posts, the internet and my dad, completely re-did the rear drum brakes...if anyone would like help with that let me know...by the way, my dad was the most helpful....and least expensive!!!...I'm 44 so he's been doing this a long time!!!...If someone has a moment, I have another problem now...idle is screwed up...my daughters call it "huffing and puffing"...cycles between roughly 300rpm and 1200 rpm...not always but frequently...what should I check?...thanks in advance for your help and for your previous posts...love this aerostar....

Vacum lines, Dirty IAC, could also need a tune-up or plug wires are breaking down.

Thank you so much...I'm sure it needs a tune-up...it started idling roughly after sitting for about 10 days until I could replace the starter...will be giving it a complete tuneup when I can afford to...what do you mean about the "star"? havent heard of that before...I am getting an airbag code flashed at me but that is for the clockspring which I will be replacing when I can afford to...I deliver 220 newspapers per day and stop and start 90 times a day so the van is getting beat up pretty good but so far is still hanging in there...thanks again

The TPS could also be at fault. About $24, and 5 minutes of work.

Is there a way to determine if it's the IAC or TPS? My 94 with 165K is doing the same thing when in park or nuetral. It's like the idle surges and drops and eventually will stall. If you have it in gear, it seems OK (usually). I'd like to know before dropping the cash and digging in under that hood (or do you go in from the back?) Great old work van. I'd like to get another 100K out of it. Thanks for any help.

Just wondering are you getting any codes,IAC not sure but TPS is done from the front,2 star screws, hope you hit it luckier than I did but not to worry I changed the 2 star screws from a hardware store with allen key screws, make sure of the lenght and quality of the screws if you attempt this,Ford must sell the originals.
Keep us posted.

Try removing the IAC and spray injector cleaner into it. If this improves the idle, I would consider replacing it.
