I'm blown away.

I sent a post the other day seeking info about an F3 that I have with the Herman milk truck body and did not get a single response. Am I to assume that this thing is rare enough to not get any info on it or, is this a sacroligeous(sp) combination? Or do I just smell bad and noone wants to get near me?

Dave, uh... man... we were going to mention that smell thing but since you're a newbie we were gonna wait a while... we just use that html 'smell' filter for a while.

Not a lot of traffic here on Milk Trucks... you can probably get some serious help on the F-3 in general... frame, suspension, engine questions.... but you don't see a lot of Milk Rods.. I think they are cool... just like the rodded buses, but rare is a term you could use.

sorry,
John

Hey Dave, welcome to FTE. I thot about telling you what John did, but decided I'd wait to see if anyone had info for you.

I don't think I've heard anyone else talk about a milk truck body - usually the DIVCO's get that press. Looks like you're the first with a Ford. Take lots of pictures as you work on it and post them for us to see. You're educating us!!

Yeah. If you want responses form the other folks, ask for simple information. A Ford milk truck is a pretty rare and esoteric topic.
To summarize:
Yes, it is rare.
Yes, it does seem a bit sacriligious.
No, I didn't notice the smell, but I have that feature routinely turned off.

Dave, I think the mind-set of this group is more toward tuning up the running gear and chassis on a clean truck, and less toward restoration of unusual vehicles.

Ford made some interesting variations on the trucks; COE, dump trucks, vans, panel vans, etc. That milk truck would probably draw a real crowd at a car show.

Okay, after looking through a ford aftermarket catalog(hildy's) and a excellent ford book, I found a slight mention and a pic. The Herman Body Company, St.louis . The pic shows they started out with a chassis and cowl, and herman added the roof and doors. Again this is for a 1953 model, but the info should apply. Try searching on google.com under the title "herman body company st.louis" They are much rarer than fords own parcel delivery bodies....-4speed

Dave,

In December of '03 Autolit.com had an Herman Milk truck brochure on eBay. I don't remember if it sold so you could contact them and find out if they still have it. I copied the pictures, they're not great quality but you can still read them and I know it's cheating but what the heck, I will have them posted for a short time at:

Herman Brochure

The 1949 Hildy's book has about eight body companies that made milk truck bodies but it didn't have anything about Herman.

P.S. I like the odd trucks the best, I think it would be nice to keep the milk truck as stock as possible.

Oh I get it. A formal request does nothing but, a little sarcasm stirs the ranks eh? Just kidding. I appreciate the interest here about this old truck. I had no idea that it could be so rare. The pictures in the Herman Brochure that bobj49f2 shows are really close. The only real difference I can see is that mine doesn't have a drivers door. Kinda like a school bus. I haven't even drug it home yet(don't know where to put it) but, I went and took a few pics of it. If I can I will post them for all to see.

I have a 1950 Ford Truck with a Ma Bell Telephone and Telegraph symbol on the door. I have only found one other so far and it is in a salvage yard out east.
