No really. So when you have to r&r the dizzy later on, it makes it a lot easier to engage, especially if the shaft is laying to one side. That's assuming the shaft didn't take a dive into the pan, don't forget the clip!
That's very good info. That might explain why stabbing the dizzy is such a procedure for me! Although, I never really notice a flat or pointed end on the ARP shaft.....
ANyway, good information! As BB stated, use the clip. It will save you from dropping the pan again....and again.
And notice that the clip (tinnerman collar) has a right way and a wrong way to go on the shaft...it seems to engage slightly better when the "cup" is facing up.
gtex, I don't know about the ARP shafts. Mine is a 7/16" chrome-moly steel shaft from FPP that I bought back in '80 when they were the only game in town and it has a pointed end.
