I am new to this site..
Was looking for some direction...
I am thinking about buying an old Ford pickup and basically pulling the old engine out and putting a new one in.
Are there any new inline 6 engines out there (not remanufactured)?
If there are, who makes them? how much?
What should I expect to pay to have a mechanic install it?
New inline sixes? As for domestics, GM has an I6 (4.2) & there's the jeep 4.0. I think thats about it. Supposedly ford was still making the 300 up untill recently for industrial purposes, but I don't know when they stopped (or maybe its still being built?). As much as I love fords, I'm not sure we'll ever a ford I6 again, ford seems to be commited to the V-style engine & I4s. Too bad, the 300 was a great motor.

Call your Ford Dealer/parts. A friend of mine just inquired at Sanderson Ford, here in Arizona, and they still have the I-6 engines that are brand new. I think the cost was about 1800 for the engine only.
I recently got a quote for a backup electric generator at work that had the ole 300 six powered by propane. I heard that they stopped production too, but they still are selling them. The industrial models are not designed for automotive uses though. I would think if you could find one it would be built tougher than the last ones put in trucks, but might need some mods. You also could just buy a reman six. That would be a lot cheaper and more available.
>> ford australia produces a 4.0l dohc 24valve turbo inline six
power is 270kw@5250rpm and 550nm at 2000rpm to 4250rpm. <<
For those who may be wondering that's about 362 horsepower and 405 foot-pounds of torque. Not too bad from an engine displacing maybe 244 cubic inches. eh?
If I read that right, his dohc 6 is a new head on an old 250 block. Must be a diff block unless they went belt on the cam drive. My question: Why can't we get that motor?
I have an "almost new" 1995 efi 300 in northern CA near the OR line on I-5. Has 19K (from a rear ended F150 4wd) on it and all the pumps, alternator, air, efi, and bell housing. I was going to put this in my truck but ended up replacing it with a 95 F150 with a great motor. Paid $1000. My phone is 530-468-2280 if this is what you are after and you are on the west coast. JimG
Jaster,
I'd be dangerous if I learned how to read.... didn't notice your location. Shipping would be out of sight. Hope you find one nearer to you. There is a LOT involved in going from carb to EFI, so do some reading before you switch. Jim
they did slightly change the block and the non turbo motor is standard in all ford falcons sedans to utes and including the new territory which carries fi dohc24v 4.0 litre 182kw 5000rpm,
380nm 3250 four speed auto all wheel drive off roader.
you see between 1983 and 1990 ford australia had a bright idea it was to drop production of its 302 and 351 cleveland v8 so they put there efforts into the six cylinder. it didnt work out to well all the people wanting v8 power started tuboing or bought a GM holden. so around 1990 ford started importing 5.0l v8 windsors from the USA.
so if you want a hot six look at buying them second hand from australia they have same style efi as american fords.
One more problem, unless it is more than 15 years old, any non north american produced engine has to go through all sorts of certifications. That cost about many times as much as the engine and shipping. I'm sorry, but i'd rather just swap a v-8 in....
