battery wire gauge

will a higher gauge battery wire do anything, better starting?

Depends on whether the current one is adequate or not. I see a lot of factory replacement cables that are 6ga. I think this is too small for anything, but especially a large V8 high compression. I'd recommend a minimum of 4ga. 2ga would be even better. I once had a Chevelle that I put #1/0 welding cable and a 1000cca battery on. Even w/11:1 compression it would spin right over.

Factory cables should be ok. If you're not sure if its factory, then try this. Watch the battery cable when you start the engine. I've seen cable flex when they're too small (or the engine was tight/seized). Just an idea.

If your starter spins the engine at a normal speed, don't worry about the cable.
