4WD Problem on 93 Explorer XL

4WD Problem on 93 Explorer XL
When my brother places his explorer in 4 wheel drive, after a few minutes the engine oil light will come on. After returning to 2WD, the light will go out. One day we noticed an oil spot underneath the rear axle, center, that is not there when the car remains in 2WD. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
