I have a couple of light scrathces I would like to repair. I have heard many theories on how to go about doing this, ranging from using sandpaper to simply buffing with wax. Do I need to use touch up paint? Do I need to sand? What are the different types of cutter/polisher/waxes/etc?
Would someone give me a good set of instructions for repairing light to moderate scratch fixes? These scratches are not very deep if that helps.
In my experience it dependents on how large of the scratches they are. We have what are called Arizona Pin striping, which is a bush or tree limb that scratches on the side of the truck. If this is the case I have, in the past, used the color waxes and they cover it up. I have also used the three step Maguire’s system with great success. If it is really deeply scratched you may have to wet sand, but I would not do that without knowing exactly what you are doing.
Use a orbital buffer for the three stage system and you should be please, but again practice on something or on the bed before tackling the exterior. It took me some time to get proficient with my machine and I burned the pain the first time I did use it. (not on my truck)
I would use the Meguires 3 step program i used it and love it i think it works so well and there is also another product they have it is the clay bar,you will be happy with there products, cause i am.Let me know how you make out with it.
keep moving the buffer, if you dont it could burn the paint. watch how full your pad gets cause if you dont it will cause swirl makes. when you apply the wax make sure the cloth you are using even on a orbital buffer is wet. before applying the wax with the buffer go around things you dont want wax on with a wet applicater pad with wax on it, also carry a dry rag with you cause if you keep the wax applicater wet the wax you get on the plastic or whatever will come right off with the other rag if you get to it quick. it will also not leave the white stuff on the plastic. use it on cool paint and dont do it outside. best time is right after you wash it and put it in someplace to do it if you can. best time to wax is in the moring or late evening. if you have a gerage at night. that way the paint is cool. if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.
