basically all a snow plow leaf is is an add-a-leaf. yes it is a factory part. i would suggest getting either new springs (recommended if you have the cash to toss around) b/c it is already stiff and an add-a-leaf will make it worse!
i personally would make a set of longer shackles and lift it that way.....cheapest and keeps the stock ride!
Do you want to raise the front or just make it level? That truck has a 2" block in the back doesn't it? If so you culd pull the block and your truck would sit about right . . . although you'll lose your ride height.
Yes, the truck does have a 2" block in the rear, but I like the look and height. I guess I do want to raise the front more than just level the truck now that you mention it. Basically, I have 3 reasons for wanting to raise the front.
1. LOOKS
2. I'm running 315x75x16 tires that BARELY rub when the wheel is cranked all the way to the left and I'm accelerating.
3. I've replaced my steering damper 3 times now. Whenever I hit a substantial bump (off-road) the damper comes up and smacks the frame above it. This wipes out the damper and also tells me that I need more travel. I have already replaced the shocks with KYB gas Heavy Duty (the red ones) and that helped a little to dampen the front end, but I feel it should be either stiffer or higher. The guy at the spring shop also told me that if I just reoplaced the springs with new ones that the inevitale "sag" would re-occur in a year or two due to the weight of the bumper and engine. That's why he recommended the snow plow spring. From what I've been reading on here though, the snow plow leaf really destroys the ride. If I just kept the leafs that are in it and did the longer shackle thing, would my leafs continue to sag over time?
I had the same problem on my 94.5 F250, and it bounced a lot, even with new springs. Apparently Ford started using stronger springs in the 95.5 model. I bought a pair off a 96 f-250, took about 2 hours to install, and fixed everything.
Now I have a similar problem with my 99 f350 though
I hope this helps.
