Will An Add-a-leaf Work?

I Have A 93- F-250 That Is Stock In Regards To Suspension And Wheels/tires. The Problem Is That The Front Is Quite A Bit Lower Than The Rear. The Front Leafs Appear To Be Bending Slightly Downward Kind Of Like A Sad Face ( , Not Quite That Extreme Though. I've Looked At Other F-250's And Noticed That The Springs Are Mostly Straight Across Or Arched Upward. Question Is: Will An Add-a-leaf Correct This Problem And Level The Front End Or Will New Springs Be Required. As It Sits, The Front End Appears To Be Approx 2" Lower Than The Rear.

Yeah, but then your TTB alignment will probably be off, and wear tires funny. You might need pivot brackets to make it right.

It Rides Like A Brick Now, Could It Possibly Get Worse? I Was Thinking Of New Springs With Multiple Thinner Leafs. Thanks

I would just order a new set of leaf packs.

The problem exists mostly in the top three leaves in a spring pack when they have a negative arc, mostly from overloading. Adding in a lift leaf will do little to correct the problem and sooner or later that weak spring will break.

imo, If you are going to add a lift/add-a-leaf then make sure it extends beyond the eye springs. So do, some do not.

i would make a set of shackles that are 1-1.5" longer for the front! but that's just me! new spring packs are not worth an extra inch!

Hey there,

I too had a '93 F250 that had a sagging front end. After much research and talking to others with the same problem, I decided to go with the advice that fit my wallet the best.

I bought new F350 springs and F350 rear lift blocks and put those in. The F350 springs shot the front end up 4.5 inches and to level the truck out, I threw in the F350 4" rear lift blocks.

I was politely discouraged not to add an "add-a-leaf" as ride would sacrfice - now adding 1 ton springs doesn't help to keep the coffee in the travel mug , however the ride seems to dampen much better on the bumps. Before the truck would jump all over the road.

I just completed this conversion 2 days ago and will be taking the truck in for a wheel alignment. I'll post on if it's a success or not.

I was also going to suggest going to F350 springs. Don't know why Ford used the negative arch springs in the F250's but they suck big time. Check you local wrecking yards . . . bet you can get a pair of front springs from an F350 for $50-$80 and be ready to roll.

actually, the IFS F-250 springs don't actually have negative arch. They just look like it

Seriously though, gas springs have a positive arch (like 1/2-3/4"). The diesel springs I have on mine are perfectly flat, and they are thicker. I used them since they were on the newer frame and easier to get off. Plus, they will probably hold the monster bumper I will build .

As long as this thread is running, I thought maybe you guys could answer a similar problem I have. My truck is a '97 F-350 PSD 4x4. The front end is noticably lower than the rear by about 3 inches. All I want to do is level it out and bring up the front end. I do have a huge "monster bumper" with a catwalk which I'm sure adds to the problem. I took the truck to a local spring/suspension shop and the guy said I had 2 options. Option 1 was to replace my existing springs with brand new ones. Right now my springs are totally flat, and he said they should arch up a bit. Option 2 was to leave my existing springs there, and add a "snow plow" leaf plus he said that he would also add a piece of an old cut spring to bring up the height some more. What is a snow plow leaf? Is it a stock Ford item?

Thanks for any advise.
