I work on HMMWV's and know a senior technician at AM General (maker of the HMMWV has sent me this additive called (MOTOR SILK) it is a lifetime engine lubrication treatment he wants me to try in the engines and check out the performance gains just wondering if any here has tried it and what there opinion is of the product... Motor Silk shows to be a boron oxide in a 20w-50 petroleum fluid. They claim that the carrier fluid is synthetic so I would assume that it is a Gp III dino synthetic which doesn't make any sense as Gp III's generally do not support an additive package. Solvency reports come from Herguth Labs. I am not familiar with this Vallejo, Calif. based lab so I am not sure of their credibility. CAS # is 8002-05-9 for those that are interested. Boron is a good EP/FM additive that is found in more motor oils every day. It is expensive to include in an oil formulation. They may be assuming that if a little bit is good- a whole lot is better. From the info I have- the jury is still out. It certainly won't hurt your engine like a clorinated additive such as Dura lube, Prolong, etc. Considering the cost of $30. per pint, I think the advantages do not out weigh the cost. It should be mixed at the rate of 1 pint per 5 qts. Hope this helps.
