Keyless code not working -- or, Did I get ripped off?
Hey!
My wife picked up her '00 E.B. this week. I followed the instructions here for the keyless entry code, found the modual under the dash with a bold-face 5-digit code, but entering it did nothing. So she had to go to the dealer today anyway to get a 2nd key coded, and she asked them to scan the computer for the correct code. They got the key done, wrote the code down for her and gave us a bill for $120! $35 of that was for writing the code down! (No, this isn't where we bought the vehicle.) So she got home and read me the code and its the same one on the tag under the dash - which DOESN'T WORK! (Of course, she didn't think to try it out while she was there, or ask if they'd tried it to see if it worked... )
So my question is, is there a fuse or something somewhere that could be killing off the entry pad controls, or is there some other reason they might not work, or what? I'm angry at the moment as I suspect they just looked under the dash and wrote that number down and charged us $35 for it, rather than asking the computer what it should be. Coould the "permenant code" have been changed or erased? Do the keypads go "bad?"
Does the Keypad light up when you push the buttons or do the running board lights light up, if not the pad may be bad. I don't know where you are located but there have been posts on here, mostly from the northern states, that have said the area behind the keypad had corroded. Dan

Hey! Wife says the lights come on when she hits the 3rd button in the sequence. I would have thought it would light up right away, when you hit the first button, but I could be wrong.
Sounds like I may have a bad connection. Anyone know how much these things cost or how to take them out?
Somebody before you might have changed the code. Look inside your manual, there should be instructions for resetting back to factory.
If someone entered a new code the factory code should still work. There is a "re-set to factory" feature that really just erases another personal code you might have entered. Can't try that because you still have to enter the factory code first.
I think the pad is phawked. I need to figure out how to take it off.
