Can someone help me, When I start my car it stalls when I put it in Drive. I have to keep my foot on the brake and give it gas at the same time as I let off the brake. Once I get moving the truck is fine. After it's been running I can shut the truck on and off all day long with out a problem it's just after it's been sitting a few days. What would cause this?
check the IAC valve (idle air control). if the valve is going bad it will not allow the engine to hold an idle. it gets worse the longer you let it go. its mounted on the throttle body w/ a plug in and two bolts. easy to change. to check if this is the problem start the vehicle in the morning, if it dies tap the IAC valve with a hammer or mallet. then start the engine again if it holds an idle, its the IAC. hope this helps you.
I assume you have a V10. It probably is the idle air valve. It is on the rear of the throttle body, real fun to get to. Just follow the 1 inch hose from the air intake around to the back. It needs to be cleaned or replaced. Just take it out and WD-40 and a small toothbrush. I have cleaned mine about every 35k miles. I'm at 111k right now. I still have the original. I think a new one costs @ $80 if you DIY. Chevrolet's answer to the need for idle air was much simpler - drill a hole in the butterfly valve, and if you need more air due to mods, drill a larger hole.
I just had mine replaced under warranty, but it was around $75-80 for the part. Mine was doing the same thing, stall on first start. But if I nailed the throttle, it would stay running.
