I have an 01 with 285's. Ride is smoother, there is a more noise from these tires BFG ATTA's. I can no longer pull into my garage with the tires, height increase ~2". I can still pull the nose in to do work under the hood if it's raining.
Any idea on how much your speedo was affected? Currently, my 03 seems to be about 3 mph slower than the speedo from the factory. I check mine using my GPS.
I had the 285 BFG A/T's on mine when I bought it. Could not stand the noise. They worked like cr$p in the rain and any snow - borderline dangerous (IMO). Gave them away to a buddy of mine.
Put a set of Yokohama Geolander H/T-S on it (285) for the summer (photos in my gallery). Love'em. Quiet and good water repelling (look good too). Got some Pirelli Scorpion A/T's for the winter (compliments of the Ford Firestone recall) - won't know how they do until the snow flies.

I am picking up my new psd 04 next week and would like to also put 285's on the new rig. I have an 03 with the replacement BFG rugged trails. They have been ok but have always wanted taller tires. I'm leaning towards the BFG AT'S but unsure about making the leap to taller tires on factory rims. Does anyone run them with mud flaps? Do they rub? I know they look great but I'm nervous about straying from the 265'S. I need to hear from more people that they run 285's on thier X"S.
Now what a minute....
If you bought your X with 285 BFG's on it, how did you get the Pirrelli coutrsey of Firestone? Please explain.
- Bought truck used from original owner.
- He had taken off the stock Firestones, put on 285 BFG's.
- He gave me the stock Firestones with the truck.
- I took them (and the recall notice) to Ford and got 5 new Pirelli's.
