I have a very sticky dash in my 2003 350 SD. I first noticed this problem when it was very hot outside and inside the cab. I don't drive my truck very often and I have to let it set in the sun and weather most of the time. I have not used anything at all on the dash. I simply wipe off the dust with a clean, dry cloth. Has anyone experienced the same type of problem with the dash? The entire dash has the appearance and feel of a shiny resign or tree sap and is very very sticky when it is hot. When it cools off the shine fades and the dash is not sticky at all. What is happening here? I simply would like some other input from this group before I take it back to the dealer. The interior color is tan with leather seats. Thanks
This is a common problem in the sunbelt !
What is happening is the plastic is still out gasing (chemical release ) from manufacturing. It will go away after awhile just don't set anything on it when real sticky .
Same here on my both vehicles the F250 SD and Escape sure get sticky when it is hot and the color is grey. So, really don't know why yet and hope to get the right answer here soon from who are familiar with this.
Don't use any amonina based window cleaners (Windex), they promote off-gassing. I use Invisible glass or Bon Ami and the problem has slowed down ( I would be lying if I said it stopped). I also found that the Meguiar's protectant wipes cleans and protects the plastics/dash.

Or you can take it back and complain.

Do you still stand by your theory of outgassing? Makes sense to me, just wanted to see if it was true since this post.
My wife's new Escape had the same problem. I wiped the dash down with WD40 several times and added a coat of Finish 2001(?) (bright green bottle). Not sticky anymore!

Mine did the same after some of the stuff used at some of the car washes here in Tucson. Cleaned mine with "Orange Blast" cleaner. Full strength, cleaned everything better than any vinyl cleaner I have tried.
Guys, FortyFords said it.
Most new vehicles will do it if you do not use a sun shield.
ALWAYS use a shield!
Heat molds the plastics and heat will break it back down.
Another thing that will happen is you always have a foggy windshield when it leaches the chemicals.
I found that a very effective method of cleaning the dash and interior plastic is to use a squirt bottle of Lysol basin tub and tile cleaner. It does a great job on the kids greasy prints! Afterwards, I rub it all down with a cotton rag with rubbing alcohol. Everthing stays nice and non tacky afterwards. I guess we all have our own methods!
I had the same problem on mine. Plus, bad reflection of the dash on windshield when the sun hit it at a certain angle. Fixed both problems. Put on a black dashmat.
