I had to have my 2002 Exped towed to the dealer because I couldn't shift it into park. I had trouble at the gas station getting it into Drive and when I got to my destination, I couldn't shift it into park. They said I need a new shift cable and of course this isn't covered under my "Extra Care" Extended Warranty. Parts and labor will run $327. Anyone else have this problem with this car? Thanks for any comments...
Welcome to FTE!! This may seem silly, but when you are trying to shift into park, is your foot on the brake? You have to have your foot on the brake to shift into park. If it is, check the switch on the brake pedal. That switch going bad could cause it to not shift into park.
Yes, my foot was on the brake. You could tell the first time out of the gas station that it didn't feel right. The shifter kind of felt loose/wobbly. My husband also tried everything we could think of. The mechanic looked at it this morning and said that the cable was bad.
Yeah, I had to replace mine (2000). The cable got a kink in it and finally fatigued to failure. Had to have it replaced. Worked even better than before, I think mine was screwed a bit from the factory. Yes it's not cheap, but what dealer repair is?
