Hey guys, I recently had an Escort hemorage 3 quarts of oil all over my garage and driveway due to an oil filter gasket not coming off. Granted I should have seen it, but they always come off, and I was in a hurry. That is beside the point. I cleaned up all the oil in the garage, but I am having a hard time getting it off the driveway. I used some stuff from Menards to try and remove the oil, but it didn't help at all. What else can I use to remove the big oil stain. The driveway is asphalt BTW. Thanks
Try grease lightning and then pressure wash, or if you can find it, there is this stuff called Lestoil, or something like that. It eats the oil, and you can then just spray it away.
Asphalt is hard to clean because it is so pouruos anyway. I ususally wash off the majority of it with a presuure washer and then sprinkle some plain old sand on it. Just sweep up the old sand and replace every weekend foe a couple of months and it will get most of it.
Sawdust or cat litter will mop up some as well. After you recoat the next time, you won't even notice. But you should get as much up as possbile before recoating.
i called a place out of the yellow pages to do my driveway.(had a volkswagon for a couple of years.) the driveway will hold six vehicles(maybe seven), and it cost me $120.00. not bad for letting someone else stand in the heat with a pressure washer. BTW it all came up and i recommend the truck mounted system to anyone.
I have had reasonable success with biodegradable detergent like one might use in the washing machine. Wet the surface, sprinkle the detergent over the spot, scrub the detergent/water to make a paste-like consistency over the spill and allow it to dry.
Concrete and asphalt are porous like your clothing and the detergent will do a reasonable job of removing the "soil". Wash the residue away after a day or so and because it is biodegradable, no worries. This may require a repeat performance or two however, I have had good luck with this at home and the shop.
