Something smells funny
My 1995 4.9 inline six runs great, but when i shut it off and walk past the front end it smells like i am burning or at least boiling my coolant. The radiator is new, the coolant is new, and there are no leaks, what is going on? The temp gauge only goes to the r in normal and never higher. Any ideas? The coolant level never drops either.

Check around all the hose fittings for signs of discoloration. Could be minor seepage; it doesn't take a lot of coolant to be able to smell it. Could also be that when you shut it off it pushes some coolant into the recovery tank. When it does that, it would have to displace the vapors in there to to the atmosphere where you could smell it.

Pikachu's advice is good. I would suspect a fitting that's a touch loose or the recovery tank. You might also give the water pump a hard looking over at the bottom of it to make sure it is not starting to weep.
