It felt like a bad sunburn that somenoe keeps slaping!
I'm glad I had the sense then (18 years old) to place it high enough on my arm so that I could "hide" it if I had to.

A tattoo is pretty much permanent. Once you got it, it will cost a lot of money(couple thou and up) and pain to remove. So if you do get a tattoo I highly recommend you get one you really like and KNOW you can look at for the rest of your life. I wouldn't put a name brand on myself, what the heck for, they ain't paying me to advertise. I surely wouldn't put the name of a girlfiend or wife on me, things change no matter how "In Love" you are now.
Most people I know who have had tattoos for a long time now spend some effort to "hide" them. "Why, didn't you like it when you got it?" All the tattoos I have seen that are old are also pretty faded and sometimes blotchy. Most are not pretty after all these years.
I am not tryin to say they are bad, I just recommend putting serious thought about what and why and where you are putting something permanent on your body. You will be spending a long time with it and if the tattoo says "I love Mary" maybe your wife Jane might have a problem with it 20 years down the road. And for Pete's sake don't tattoo Ford on you, only us Ford guys would think it's cool and do you really want us checking you out? ;^)
On a personal level, I keep trying to talk my wife into getting butterfly tattoo'd on her umm derriere, but no dice, even though she likes tattoos.
Ya makes your choice and then you live with it.

I have three tat's, a tribal band around my left arm, and on my right shoulder I have a dream catcher with a wolf's paw. This one is then surrounded by a bigger tribal pattern that branches on the outside of my bicep, circling the dream catcher, and extending up the front of my shoulder and onto my chest. My wife also has three. All of ours are only black. I personally don't like color for me but have seen some very cool colored tatoos that were all different colors.
As far as pain, it ain't too bad. For me, the tricep and underside of the arm hurt alot worse than the center of my shoulder or the outside of the arm. It is more like an annoying stinging that some undescribable brutal pain. I love all of mine and may get more, maybe something on my back. It is a personal choice, but one you will have to live with. As far as fading and blurring go, well you can always have it redone down the road or even 'covered' by bigger/better tatoo later. Its just like choosing a dentist or an auto body shop, find a tatoo artist with a good reputation and one that has alot of picures of work he/she has done and just hang out in the shop for a while and see what it is all about. Most tatoo artist like to be asked questions about it. Also, take some time looking and deciding what to get, do some internet searches and look at a lot of designs or tell the tatoo artist an idea you have and let them draw you an original design, most artists get really excited about doing original work, instead of the same old tigers and tazmanian devils.
Sorry for the long post. The only other thing I will say is don't get a tatoo just get one. Find something that YOU like and that YOU are willing to live with. Good Luck!

It just doesn't work for me. However I would add that I don't wear any jewelery either (not even my wedding ring) and I don't wear a watch. I do however wear clothes
The only accessory I always have, are my shades
I always have several pair ready. But if someone wants to do it, that's their choice. There are worse things - like body piercing.
my wife has roadrunner on her lft ankle
i got all of mine while seving in Uncle Sams Motorcycle Club(USMC)
no they dont hurt much the arm band hurt a bit on the back of the arm cause thats sorta tender meat back there
In today's business climate, people who have tattoos, blue hair, body pierces,...etc., severely limit their opportunities for advancement. I don't neccessarily agree with it, but most major companies frown on placing people with these features in positions where customer perception may be affected. Naturally, this would make executive positions within most companies out of reach for those who place a high priority on looking "different". That's just the way it is.
