I was tinkering around the idea of a different engine in the 65-66 F100's. Is there some frame rail width and firewall to radiator measurements somewhere? I've been looking for a truck and want to keep the engine options open(I'm not cross breeding- GM/Dodge ). If I remember right my nephew's '72 F100 frame width is about 34" at motor mounts . The weird part is I'm selling my '97 Didge Ram and wanted to get a real truck & better looking too .

Your nephew's frame is the same as a 65/66 up front. Whatever you could cram into a 72 (all the way up to a 460, you can get in a 65/66 so long as it is a twin-I front end. Engine mounts are the same!! The 4x4 and larger trucks kept the earlier configuration with larger inner fenders (and stright front axel) till 67, which makes the engine bay more limited. In short, you engine choices are miriade in 65/66. Whatever makes you happy. If you love V8, IMHO you should just get it over with (your fuel economy is not going to be great with ANY engine) and drop a 460 in. For 6 cylinder fans, the 300 has a large following and parts are available to build it up pretty nice, as well as know-how. For me, I like my little 240. Tough as nails, decent fuel economy and much maligned (not very powerful, not much glamour).
