I have a 1999 f150 xlt with 72K miles on it and a day ago the brake pedal dropped suddenly about 2 inches when applying the brakes at a low speed and then was back to normal. This did this twice and then this morning the abs light came on solid and stays on. What might this be ?
Could be a number of things. First, check the fluid level and the ground around the truck and the underside to make sure you don't have any leaks. Then look at the pads to make sure you don't have a broken or cracked pad. While checking those, check your rotors for any visible damage. Then start with the ABS sensors. check wiring to the sensors. If the sensors have any dirt on em, clean em.
If nothing is found, go to your local autoparts store and have them pull codes for you to see if that registered anything. They will usually do it for free.
Once you get through some of the basic checks, let us know. This will help to narrow it down a bit.
