High volume oil pump ?

I am prepping a used 390 to be installed into my F-250 and was planning on replacing the oil pump since the motor was out.
I call DSC Motorsports to get some pricing on stuff and Dennis suggested going high volume instead of stock replacement pump.
I thought I read something here that the High volume pump would put added wear to the stock distributor gear.
Dennis stated that He never had issues with this.
I tried to search the forum on this issue but had no decent luck.
I will probably order a high volume pump this afternoon if all sounds good.
Thanks for any help.
Ken

If you get the high volume pump from Dennis, which I did, make sure to get the upgraded drive shaft for it. He has those as well. Only issue I have heard is the standard drive shaft going out.

I've been running a hv for 6 years, and drag raced for 2. Never had any problems. There is 1 thing I think that it causes. Because of the poor drain back on 390 heads, the topend creates alot of splash, which causes oil to sometimes comes out the breather caps, or pcv. I'm just guessing though.

There are no issues. Either the gear breaks in correctly or it doesn't. Just run light oil for break in and you should be fine. I love my HV pump. It seems to prime quicker at startup.

Ask Dennis for the hardened intermediate shaft too. The stock one's can barber pole (twist) under the added load.

If you install a HV oil pump you might want to restrict the oil coming up to the heads as the HV will pump it all up there and you will not have any in the pan. Its real easy to do with a set of Holley main jets under the oil bolt of your rocker shafts in the oil galley. They just push in and reinstall the rockers. I used a set of Holley .090's in mine.

EXACTLY! When going HV on an FE, restrict the head oil supply...

I used a piece of pushrod from a SB Chevy (or was it a Ford 289?) for the restrictor, but the Holley jets are nicer...

That is the ONLY shaft I use these days, especially with a hv pump. Go with the ARP, the "upgraded" shafts do not compare. Trust me. I know Greg does

So just to clear things up,

To restrict the flow, You just place a main jet in the hole before the bolt goes in?
is the diameter of the jet large enough that it won't flop around in there?
I do have a Holley jet kit so I'm sure that I still have a pair of 090s.
Thanks for all the help.

The rocker shaft is fed by an oil galley under one of the rocker stands, when you get the rocker shaft off, you'll see the oil galley off to the side from the actual threaded bolt hole - the jet goes in there... and should just slide in, from what I've been told...

Thanks for clearing things up.
Sounds pretty straight forward now.
Thanks, Ken

Yes the holley jet will push in small end first and fits nicely. There is a turn in the galley right after that so the jet cannot slide down into the head. On the other end the bolt will not let it push out of the hole and it fits snug.
