Rear End leaking

Hey Guys,
I have a rear end problem. The rear end is leaking around the yoke between the seal and the driveshaft. The fluid is getting on the driveshaft and spining up up underneath the bed. I need to replace the seal between the hogs head and the drive shaft spindle. i have no idea how to do this, please give me a hand in an explanation. Thanks, dskarl

It is fairly simple.

tools needed:

hammer
wood block
1/2'' box end wrench
large socket for the pinion nut (I cant remeber the size for sure)
2 or 3 jaw gear puller (3 is best).
Flat blade pry bar or screw driver.
oil pan

parts needed:

Pinion seal

speedy sleeve for the pinion flange (this goes on the area where the seal rides on, you need this to fix the groves that the seal makes over time.)

top off oil

Remove the 4 bolts the hold the u-joint to the pinion flange, this will be slow going with the box end wrench, but you wont have to buy a special tool.

Remove the large pinion nut inside the pinion flange once the drive shaft has been removed.

Place oil pan under pinion.

Once nut has been removed, use the jaw pullers to remove the pinion flange (use lots of penetration oil and take your time, use a small hammer to tap the flange every couple turns on the puller, this will help it out). Take note how the pinion seals on the pinion flange, this is the area that gets the speedy sleeve.

Take the pinion flange to a parts house to get measured for a speedy sleeve, and pick up the proper pinion seal too.

Remove the old seal with a hammer and a punch/screw driver/ pry bar, being careful not to marr the pumpkin up.

Reinstall new seal with a hammer and wood block, be carefull not to hit the rubber seal.

Install speedy sleeve with the tool included, reassemble to proper torque, and top off with the proper oil.

Hope I didnt miss too much. Sometimes it's easier to put the rear axle on jack stands so that you can put the tranny in neutral to rotate the drive shaft and create better access to the 4 bolts on the pinion flange. If you do this make sure you block the front wheels really well.

To my knowledge, they dont have the speedy sleeve....at least they dont at my ford dealer, I ended up taking the flange to a local bearing and seal shop to get mine.
