Rear Diff/driveshaft seal....Need help with install
Fellas!!
Hey my vent was blocked on the rear axle and caused the seal between the rear diff and the driveshaft to blow out. I need to replace it and was wondering if anyone has done the job and how hard it is.
It's a 9 inch rear. I assume I take off the driveshaft, then after there I am kind of stumped. Do I unbolt the five bolts on the part sticking out of the diff and pull that out and replace or do I have to undo the bolt that goes into the diff behind the driveshaft?
Yes, you have to take the large nut off to get the yoke off.
An impact gun is the best way to get it off. I'm not sure about 9" rears, but you may have to replace the crush sleeve as well if you remove the nut. That large nut when torqued determines the ring and pinion mesh and it's very important to get it right.
