question

i have a 70 ranger xlt 360 and if i leave it in 1st gear and hold the accelerator it will start to breake down very fast if i have it in drive and do the same i cant really notice it i have accel wires and coil ,blue streak cap and button. ac delco plugs,and the timming is set at stock specs. i also instaled a sparktronics ignitor system please help

it just wont gain any more rpms and it acts like it starts missfireing

The accell coil sucks. I had one give me all sorts of fits before I changed it back out to the stock coil. I suggest you change yours back.

Did you set the timing with the vacuum advance line pulled off the diaphram on the distributor and plugged? This will retard the timing A LOT if you dont.

i put the original coil on and it is still doing the same thing i also installed a different distributor but the same results i have no idea

the torque converter should prevent it from being reved at high rpms in gear it is the stall speed of the tc

i can go 45 at baout 4500 in 1st gear. sounds like a carb or fuel to me.

At what speed does the engine stop accelerating? The factory manual doesn't recommend reving past 30mph in 1st gear. You may be experiencing valve float by over-reving the engine.

In 1st the trans will never shift up. In D it will shift at about 30-35 if you mat the pedal.

Unless you are power braking, the torque converter won't limit your engine rpm.
