Gas tank blockage...
I have a '91 Explorer XLT 4x4 4.0 'X' engine, manual 5 spd. About a year and a half ago, the tranny died on it, and I was unable to find a rebuilt tranny for less than $1800. I recently found a nice cheap rebuilt tranny, and had it installed. It was sitting unused for that year and a half. I took the time to start it and let it run several times throughout that period, but never really did much else.
My question is two-fold. First, is there a recommended maintenance that I should do after letting it sit that long?
Second, I went to fill the gas tank, and it appears that there is something might be blocking the tank, because the gas pump kept clicking stop after a couple seconds. It never overflowed, so it appeared to be getting into the tank, just very slowly. Is there any "normal" type of thing that could lead to this? A filter that could get clogged or something?
Thanks in advance,
Chris
If you didn't have the gas fill problem before, I'm thinking maybe an insect or spider managed to build a "condo" in the tank's vent line while it was sitting for that long. Just a thought..............
