I am yanking my 429 to do a frame off and am unfamiliar with preservation requirements for the engine. It will likely be sitting on a stand for 2 years and I would like to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Thanks.
try coverign any openings with tape and plastic and put it in a trashbag on the engine stand. don't know much about storing engines for that long though.
two years in your climate isn't that long. You just want to keep the valves/bores/cam from rusting. Spin it by hand and spray some LPS 3 down the intake and in the EX ports (store the carb seperate, it is a whole other issue) to coat the valve seats etc. Remove the rockers and get all the valves seated at once (this is good for the springs also to store 'em relaxed.) Put some clean oil in it. Turn the engine upside down on the stand once in both directions to coat the bores... let it sit so oil runs up inside all the bores... flip it over every 3-6 months... and as recommended tape it and bag it to keep moisture out. PS when it is sitting upside down you will find out what shape the valves are in! Pull the plugs when you spin it for the restart and clear any large puddles.
