Odd backfire problem
This is really wierd. If I set "resume" on my cruise control, then have to brake as the cruise is accelerating back up to speed, the engine backfires.
The wierdest thing is that other than that situation, the engine runs like a raped ape, and is always smooth. Any ideas?

Are there any large leaks in your exhaust? Maybe when you are on the gas and then let off that backpressure is forcing cold air into a leak somewere and when that cold air hits the hot exhaust it cause an little explosion sounding like a backfire?

Back Fire
Had this happen on my 1985 f-150 man tranny -leave work 3rd gear to stop sign shazammmmmie boom ---cannon sound ----unhooked my air pump and it quit winter ideling was eratic so i rehooked the air pump ----odd----no trouble this summer --no back fire, goblins ? and wanted like yours to run appey, still does TR
