Insurance Rant!

For those who dont already know,my daughter is in the Air Force and is stationed in N.Dakota.She just bought a 2003 Ranger about a couple of weeks ago.Well, she called me and asked if she should insure it in Michigan or in N.D.I told her that seeing as how our home is her perminent residence, and that her Dr Lic is from Michigan to insure it here.Anyway,it seems that the military gets a deal from a certain ins co,so she insured it through them. They write her a policy $1450pr year with a $500 deductible. Not bad right.Well today she gets a letter from these bloodsuckers that states that since she is in N.D. her rates are going up an additional $700 per year!I call these morons on the phone and ask how in the world they can justify soaking her for an additional $700 when Michigan is by far a higher risk state than N.D.Well first moron tells me we cant discuss this with you bla, bla, bla without power of attorney bla bla.I tell said idiot I am her dad,I know everything he needs to prove Im legit, her d.l.#,her SSI#,her account# and if need be she will send them the power of att form they need.So after that hurdle he informs me that this is their policy and how they do things.I tell him that this is just another way to take advantage of our kids in the military and that I have AAA here in Michigan and if I decided to vacation in florida for six months or even a year it would not matter to AAA as long as my Dr Lic and my vehicle were registered in Michigan.Well, said idiot then starts telling me all the things wrong with Michigan!High car theft rate, lots of accidents, bla, bla, bla.I say NO KIDDING!Then why are you raising her rates just because she is stationed in N.D.?Back to the power of attorney bologna. So I tell him that if they refuse to correct this blatent injustice they are doing to my daughter I will have her cancel her policy with them.He says, sorry but thats our policy.I then ask, what if she gets sent overseas,he says, that will depend on where she stores the truck! What a scam!I then call my daughter back and tell her to tell them to stick their insurance up ---------!I will pay the extra, call my agent here in Michigan and get REAL insurance.Man this just pulls my chain!

Did her insurance happen to be USAA? That is the company I've had since I was in the army. You have to be a member or a close relative to have it but they have the best policys anywhere. They will cover so much more than any other company I've delt with. However you dont want to go right to them with no prior insurance of your own. Then their underwriters will put you at high risk. get another company for 6 mo. then switch and you'll find it to be half price. Another note, you can only leaglly insure it where the vehicle is parked at. No matter where it is registered at. good luck -Dave

According to my agent here in Michigan,as long as it is registered here in Michigan and she holds a Michigan Drivers Lic they could care less where she parks it.

I hate insurance companies . . . it's a total croc King. I had a friend who moved from Oregon to New Jersey. Her rates doubled because they considered it higher risk over there. Never mind the fac that her driving record didn't change.

I'd love to go on a rant about insurance companies but I don't think you have enough web space here for me to say all the nasty things I have to say about the biggest rippoff industry in this country. Between house car and truck and bike insurance I am paying more to insure the things I own than I am for the things themselves. I haven't had a ticket or accident for over 30 years and have been paying for car insurance all that time. I had a stereo stole out of my truck a while back and the insurance company wouldn't cover it because I put it in myself. They only cover factory installed radios. I think insurance agents, as well as lawyers and politicians should all be connected to a very short chain, anchored by a cement slab sitting on the bottom of the atlantic ocean.!!!!!!!Don

Dealing with insurance companies is like being raped and robbed. <!Not only are you forced to have dirty sex at gunpoint, then you have to pay for it too!>

She is in the military, so have her check in on USAA insurance. It is a member only insurance that was started by military officers for military officers. Now it is open to the enlisted ranks. I have had them since I was 16 and my parents had them for 20+ years before. They are a good company and fair with pricing. I pay $1600 a year for a 99 F-150 and 01 Expedition in the #1 state for auto theft and my truck is in the top 5.

I consider my Ins. compnay "the crooks." I live in So. IL, there may have been a total of four casr reoprted stolen lat year in our region news paper and local TV stations and I still have a high rate, granted it is a 2004 F-150 and I am 24 years old. I guess they figure in farm country you probably leave your keys in your vehicle's ignition, unlocked with your wallet on the dash (I do all of these and have been known to leave my truck unlocked with keys in ignition at Wal-Mart a time or two [not in the 2004 though]). I could go on forver about ins. companies and rates but there ain't enough space.

I can't believe I finally pay less than $100 a month! I didn't think it would ever happen. Insurance companies make their own rules, which of course are unregulated. Does anyone remember any discussion about insurance companies checking your credit? I don't, but all of a sudden they have access to it. So if I missed a payment, then obviously I must be a risky driver. How does that compute? Insurance = Evil!

In a way I am gald they did check my credit when I switched ins companies last year. I found that there had been a glitch between the bank and teh credit bureau and I had no credit at all showing. Big mistake on someones part but I got it taken care of. It meant the differnce in $600 a year for me at age 24 on a 96 ranger 2wd. On my 04 F-150 I am paying about $110 a month, with good driver, good credit, and good student discount till age 25. I was told the only way I could get it cheaper is if I were to get married, which I think the difference would be about $30 a month and I'm not sure saving $30 that way would be worth it.

It's still a bunch of crap that good credit=cheaper rate. Why don't they do a studyon how long you have been operating equipment and have actually been driving. I started driving a truck on the fram at age 13 and was on a tractor at age 10. By the time I was 16 I was already a better driver than most mid 20's females. And who in the world decided that 16 year old females were better drivers than males, to me that is a bigger load of crap than the credit thing. It's discrimination against men is what it is, I guess since I'm white too I'm really screwed. I think I'll call the ins. company tommorrow just to b*^&h again today. They get paid to hear from irate people anyway.

This whole credit check thing is a bunch of bull. Even if you are paying for a six month policy with cash they will still give you a higher rate is your credit is bad. Just another way to stick it in and twist.

Wow, and I was wondering why I'm paying so much here in Idaho? $600 per year, my truck and car. Funny, the 88 turd and the 99 SD cost the same to insure.

High Risk has nothing to do with New Jersey. I pay over $2000/year for an 88 Bronco. I'm not 25 yet, but my record is clean. Some companies practice only in 49 states, and NJ is always the exception. It's awful here. I asked one of those guys who work for the company with the Gecco, and he laughed when I said I lived in Jersey and wanted to price insurance. Maybe now there will be a few changes with all of the hubbub going on in NJ. It's almost a choice between college tuition and driving to work.

My wife has been in the insurance industry for about 30 years, and is a Certified Professional Commercial Underwriter. What that means is that she writes the policies for ballparks, theaters, airports, etc. The first thing you must remember is that not every agent gives a damn about your business and that some agents do not fully understand insurance, and will be unable to correctly answer your questions. All insurance companies compute auto rates by where you live. Why? You got me. But if you must know, I'll ask my wife. They don't just look at accidents. They look at ALL claims. If you and your neighbor haven't had accidents, but your neighbor has had 5 vandalism and theft claims, that means the comapny has paid out that much more money in that area. I'm sure everyone on here knows of someone who has defrauded an insurance company through a false or inflated claim. That hurts all of us. If you really want cheaper rates, kill all of the lawyers. They're the biggest contributor to high insurance rates.
