4R70W trans fluid question

Actually this question may apply to all automatic transmissions. Does the trans fluid circulate through the cooler when in park or neutral? So if I were trying to cool the trans fluid the quickest when stopped with engine running, should I be in park or drive? I have read a bit, over the years, about automatics, but am often baffled by how the slush-box works.

Putting it in park would cool it the fastest. If you are concerned about your tranny overheating, especially if you tow frequently, I recommend getting a tranny cooler. This could extend the life of your tranny considerably.

the fastest way to cool the fluid is to install a huge transmission cooler.

Keep the fluid under 200 degrees and change it every 20k.

The 4r70w is a good trans, it just needs extra clean and cool fluid in it.
