well i am going thru some serious timing issues so i dont know if u want to take my advice but i have a few LENGTHY post on this topic

Timing is adjustable.
Get a Chilton's or a Haynes manual.
You will need a timing light.
You will also need to locate the jumper on the spout connection located near the distributor. This jumper prevents the ECM from automatically adjusting the timing while you are adjusting the base timing.
