OK, I am getting ready to tackle this chore. My 99 Expy has about 80k on it & I need to change the plugs. What kind of plugs should I use & any good advice on changing them. Also where is the fuel filter located on my truck?
As you tell from the number of posts I have, I am a reader, not a writer. I can only speak for myself and my opinions are solely mine. I too, am in the process of changing plugs (among other things). After reading many posts on this forum, on this very subject, I have come to one conclusion. I am replacing my sparkplugs with the Motorcraft plugs that are recommended for my truck(AGSF22WM). My reasoning behind this is that I now have OVER 93,000 miles without a single problem. If I get HALF that many miles before a problem arises (ANY problem), I will be a happy Expeditioner. (little pun intended). Along these same lines… I am trying to talk myself into going synthetic, mostly for my transmission and diffs. Again, I am having a hard time justifying the cost. I want to do it. I can afford to do it. I just CAN’T do it. One thing that keeps coming to mind is my father saying “Never throw away a winner”… (Although I was drunk at a blackjack table in Vegas when he said it, it still holds true with other things…) Ford has spent quite a bit more money than what I can to make sure their product will suit the public - for the most part. I have recently tried to talk myself into some other nice mods (Superchip, K&N air filter, Flowmaster exhaust etc. etc.), but again, I just have a hard time justifying them for what I (just me) will get out of them. I say go with what got you here. If you didn’t like the performance before you got to this point, you would/should have changed awhile ago.
For what it is worth, I just ordered all my parts through http://www.rockauto.com/. I went with Motorcraft for everything. Actually this is a first too. Driven Ford most of my life, but really never went with ALL Motorcraft replacements.(Air/fuel/oil fiters, serpentine belt, plugs, PCV). Got a pretty good price also. They actually had everything so I didn’t have to “piece” my order together from different stores. I’m not in too big of hurry, but the order should be here next week. Good luck.
P.S. Now you know why I don’t post too much….
Next week, I’ll talk tires…
Oh yeah, I believe (or hope) the fuel filter is on the frame, drivers side, somewhere between your back door and back tire.
Also, check the tech section for a GREAT "How To" on changing the plugs. With that, and a little more reading here on the forum, you should be pumped for changing the plugs....

Use a torque wrench not just by feel so that the plugs are not over tight ie. strip the threads out. or under and end up blowing out and taking the threads with them. Other than that have fun. Just my thoughts.
I think cross threading is the number one cause of spark plug blow out along with torque. There are only a few threads to work with as it is, and getting in a hurry and pulling out even a couple threads can be disaster down the road. Take your time, thread straight. If it wont hand thread a good ways stop and remove it and clean the bore and lubricate the threads on the plug.
Too many techs remove and install with an air wratchet, and by the time he figures out he is not straight and crossthreaded its too late. Dont be that careless and you will be fine.
I've heard and read promising remarks on both the Superchip AND K&N... I'm just not going to do it with this truck. Maybe I have it in the back of my mind that I MIGHT be looking for a SuperDuty... (My girlfriend hasn't even heard about it - yet) And maybe it's because of my old truck too. 1978 Ford 350, built motor, 4" Lift, 3 1/2" body lift, 44" Muddders, roll cage, etc. etc.... I wanted a Expedition since they first came out. I waited until they came out with the climate control and the keyless entry (on door). I'm still VERY happy with the truck and am not ready to change it - yet Which leads me to my questions: Do ANY of the SuperDuty's have the climate control option? I have kind of looked but haven't seen any. Anyone?
