I recently purchased an 04 Eddie Bauer Expedition with the navigation system. I have not been able to find a button that will mute the sound system other than toggling down the volume button to mute it. I have read posts that on the 03 models the phone button will mute the radio. When I tried that I got an error message that a phone is not available.
I have an 03 and I'm 99% sure they are the same navi system. I don't know about how to mute with out toggling the volume down but I can tell you the phone button is not a mute button. After many weeks of looking into that button I finally talked to someone at Visteon which is the manufacture of the radio. The button was intended to be a hands free integrated phone that Ford decided not to implement. However I was also told that they may have a kit available in the months to come that will enable the feature using a blue tooth phone.
Here is the number to Visteon that can answer questions about the Ford products they make. 1-866-847-8457. They should be able to answer your question I would think.
Interesting info. I have an '03 EB X with nav and I've searched online to find out if there is some accessory/option that can be used with the Phone button.
I'm also trying to find out if the Sirius option can be added to the nav head unit. I think I'll call the number you listed and see.
I have an '04 Expy, but don't have the navigation system (6 disc CD in-dash instead). The button with the phone icon on it also has the word 'mute' on it. When listening to a CD it acts like a Pause button and mutes the sound when the radio is on. Maybe that is where the confusion on the different stereo models comes in to play and to what that button is designed for.
rdrakea will you please let us know what you find out when you call. I'm wondering if they are any closer to releasing the "phone kit" I was told may come out.
