Am I Underpowered??
Got a concern. I have a 97 4.6L F-150 4x4 with a limited slip. It has about 120k miles on it, and I think its lost power over the years. From what I've heard, the 4.6 can still burn tires even with a limited slip. Mine can't. I dont know if it's because I have larger AT/S tires or what, but it wont even come close to burning out. Will someone please tell me if I am underpowered? BTW, I'm talking about a brake stand here, not just a "gas and spin" type burnout.

Larger tires would limit the torque the truck could put onto the ground. Also, what is the gear ratio for your rear axle? I know they put the 3.06 ratio with the 4.6, which is meant for gas mileage instead of power. With 120k on the truck, there shouldn't be much power loss due to engine wear. The engine could have a problem that would limit power, but just not being able to burn the tires isn't a definite indication of power loss.

Have you changed the fuel filter lately. That is what killed my gas mileage in my current setup. I've got Cooper A/T tires standard size on mine and I can spin them a little, not a lot. If I've got any weight at all in the back, even a couple of hundred lbs I cannot spin them.
Changing the fuel filter was like night and day as far as power on my truck.
