300-6 intake q?

300-6 intake q?
Sorry if this belongs in the wrong place but i thought it was the best place to put it. I have a 90 f-150 300-6, the intake has no mass aorflow sensor, i went to put a cone filter on it(cold air intake) and it idled high, and would stay high, is this due to the fact that the computer can not make up for the airflow difference without the MAS? if so what can i do?
