New member, this is a great site. Just purchased a 1995 bronco 5.8L. It ran well, but I wanted to do a minor tune up. New plugs, fuel filter, dist. cap, rotor, PCV, and took off the throttle body to clean it. About half way through cleaning it, I noticed a sticker on one side stating " do not clean the inside of the throttle body" Well mine was REALLY dirty with crud on the backside, so I finished anyway. After I finished everything, I noticed the truck will miss when warm, especially if under a load. I have changed: the fuel pump ( it was whinning real loud anyway), another fuel filter, TPS, and the O2 sensor.I checked the IAC with an OHM and it seems to be ok. I have not had any codes during any of this, Passes with 111 both KOEO and KOER. It runs fine when cold, then as it starts to warm up it misses slightly until full warm when it misses considerably, both at idle and driving. any thoughts?
what kinda plugs did you use? did you replace the wires? check the timing it should be set at 10*btdc with spout connector removed. what kind of cleaner did you use on the tb?because there is special stuff for them. also check for vacum leaks by spraying some carb cleaner lightly around the intake throttlebody and check vacum lines as well.
Traceman, I had the same problem a few months back. I've replaced the wires, cap, rotor and plugs. Some of the wires and plugs had too much resistance causing a miss under load. Also double check the timing, use air intake and throttle body cleaner by gunk.
Are 7 and 8 wires together in wire loom,if they are might have a crossfire prob but really sounds like bad plug wire or cracked plug. If Bosch plugs, remove -any Ford dealer putting those in knows driveabilty problems are just a matter of time. Also only use Motorcraft PCV valve(I hate comebacks--FIX IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME)
Thanks everyone, from reading other posts about plug types, I decided to take out the Autolite platinums that I had put in and change to Motorcraft ( $1.69 at Autozone). When replaceing the plugs and found a cracked insulator on the passenger side. ( hard to get in those tight places) I also checked the wires and found one to have four times the resistance of the others. Replaced the wires and now she runs fine. Thanks again.
Diddo...had a miss and changed out my plugs in favor of some motorcrafts, and found #7 & #8 wires on top of eachother. Loomed them up and now she's just waiting for a timing light.
