I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how my AWD system works. I have owned the vehicle for a couple of months now and never gave a thought about how it worked. Thanks Cornhead386.
I have the exact same truck as you. First off AWD can be benificial but has many drawbacks as well. First off is MPG it EATS gas like its nothing, also highmilage awd's can have transfer case problems like mine.. lemme explian AWD first.
The power from your crankshaft is transferred to your tranny, from you tranny it goes to your driveshaft that usualy go into your rear differential then to yoru rear wheels(RWD cars& trucks). BUT your truck is AWD so it has somthing called a transfer case. This is a junction where your main driveshaft goes into and rotates a set of gear kind of similar to your rear diff. The gears in turn, turn a frontal secondary driveshaft that powers your front wheels with a front differential.then out of the back of teh transfer case teh main shaft continues to your rear diff. Now as with highmilage AWD X's such as mine. My viscus gear iss going. im told thats teh main drive gear in teh T-case. depending on your milage and driving habits this may or may not happen to you while you own your truck.
I also belive the power ratio os 40% front, 60% rear. i might be wrong
