Temp sending unit question

Does the computer in a '94 w/ the 4.0L V6 have a sensor to monitor the engine temperature that is separate from the sending unit that controls the temp gauge? My temp gauge always reads much colder than I'd expect it too, so if the computer uses the same temp sensor, I'm guessing that it's screwing up the fuel mix. The Explorer seems pretty sluggish to me these days.

Thanks

Temp sending unit question

There is a sensor for the temp gauge & then there is the Ect Sensor . The Ect is what the Ecu relies on for the coolant temp info . It may be that the thermostat is staying open which during cold winter temps really creates a problem . When was the last time the thermostat was replaced ?

Temp sending unit question

I have a 1994 4.o reads cold.I discussed with the service manager at the Ford Dealer. He advised me to change the sending unit for the gauge as they had a problem with some reading cold. The sending unit is located on top of the intake manifold ,at the front. They are not expensive.
