Watch local "rules" In Baltimore NO one tons on certain streets over night, not allowed in the local dump, and other stupid things........ Also pardon my ignorance, but I am new to both Ford and diesel, b ut what is a "flash"
Gas and Desiel SRW, F-250 & F-350 get the same 3.73 gears.
Gas Dually gets the 4.30 and the Desiel Dually gets 4.10 gears.
for SRW F-250 & F-350 they get the same rear end (Dana 70 I belive).
The F-350 Dually & F-450 get a bigger rear end.
And F-550 is in a class of it's own. It gets an even larger rear end.
ok ill take ur word for it i didnt look real close at the 450 and my 550 wasnt right there to compare. so it may be in the middle......

a horrible thing that is done to ur trucks on board computer. when u go the dealer, tell em not to mess with it!
The 250 and 350 run the steerling rear end, and the the dually has the dana 70, and I believe the 250 and 350 have shared axles since 1999 when the sd was first made in 2000 and 2001 they ran dana 50 front axles on the 250 and 350 single rear wheel and dana 60 on the dually 350. switched to dana 60 front on everthing in 2002.
what??? where u get this one? i have a 550 and ive seen 450's with the same rear as mine. its 3 times the size as a 350 rear
I have the Ford parts Manual CD for all Super duties, F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550. I would recomend this CD to everyone on this site. The rear end for F-350 dually and F-450 are the same part number, same rear end. The F-550 has a larger rear end and is not shared with any other Super duty. It is not three time bigger than the other Super Duty rear ends. Only a little bigger.

the ring gear is the size of some cars wheels! and the axle shafts are the size of my wrist......ever had one apart? its a sight...
I think that the Flash is somthing that is a case by case basis. I am not sure of the build but i bought it 10/03 and it was a special order from the factory and was there for about 3 days. So i am guessing its within the month and was having some tow haul probloms. I got flashed this past week and it shifts great now and im getting like 3-4 MPG better so i guess its a case by case basis...

I was refering the external size of both axles. I saw two incomplete (no bed)XL's side by side, a F-350 Dually and an F-550. The F-550 was diffenitly bigger, but not three times, not even twice as big. Anyway not to get off the subject, I was just pointing out that some people belive the F-250 & F-350 Dually have the same rear ends and they don't. For me it was another plus that the dually had a more beefy rear end that was shared with the F-450 when I could'nt make up my mind to buy a DRW or SRW. Owning a F-550 would be cool, but I don't tow.

sorry for the slang "3 times bigger"
u r right and owning one is very cool the looks u get from the onlooker catching sight of the aluminum 19.5's..... and when they're just about to ask where u got those sweet wheels on the 1 ton, they notice the "550" there on the fender and then they see the two pullin tractors on the trailer and the "gcw-37,500" on my window....... haha then they gotta show their buddies!!! and its kinda funny when their face drops at the sight of that monster axle under the back
The differential in the 550 is 'quite' large.. Way larger than the 350.. How much?? Maybe the best way to gauge the 'size' difference, would be a weight challenge!!! Kinda like pumpkins.. No pun intended.. Even the large 550 housing is 'notched out' for the ring gear to squeeze by!! They tend to leak there.. Just had one out, and chained it to the jack/lift for safety.. Didn't want it to drop and crack the 12" thick concrete!!! (radiant heat floor)

i loved my 2001 f250. it did everything i wanted it to do. it was a short bed 4x4 psd and the reason i did not buy a short bed f350 was ride quality. when i test drove back in 2000 i did notice the 350 didnot takes uneven pavement as smooth as the 250. i know the f350 can do more but i tow only a 6300# toy hauler(dry and empty). and the rest of the time (90 percent) it is empty. i am talking about my situation only and i sure others here will have the same or the opposite opinions.
either way you cant go wrong because every ford truck gasser and diesel has been great for me....
also my 05 that is ordered is a f250 psd sb 4x4.
Check the superduty and heavyduty forum--I saw basically the same info on a post there from last night I think because they were talking about the springs being the same in the 250's and 350's and liftblocks was the only difference--it was in the discussion about the new springs on the 05's--at least I think? (I try not to do to much of that as I digress towards my elder age)
