If you are going to pull a 5th wheel or gooseneck buy a 350 with drw and 4.10 rear. I pull a 5th wheel at about 12,000 lbs and get a little over 10 mpg with a great ride.
Has you Dads 03 had anything ever done to it, by Ford or himself.
How many miles on his
Tim,
Dad's is a very early production 03. He had wire harness chaffing right away, and they put in one of the very early flashes....well before the flash that took away pilot injection and ruined everyone's power/mpgs. When people started reporting on this board the negative impacts of that flash...I want to say it was the OCT 03 flash that was so bad.....I told him....based on what I learned on this forum....to be very stern with the Ford dealer if he ever took it in again and to make sure they never flashed it again....unless he had serious drivability problems. The truck has not been back to Ford other than that one time. Its really been perfect....although it does romp a little at idle occasionally. Miles are about 20k now.

That is very cool as you know mine is an early 03, and it has romped a few times...it does not bother me...good to read you Dad is happy.
The 350 SRW comes factory with 3.73 gears and the DRW comes factory with 4.10 gears thats another difference. I think you can order a different rear end but i know it comes standard with those. Other then that they are preaty much the same...
Gas and Desiel SRW, F-250 & F-350 get the same 3.73 gears.
Gas Dually gets the 4.30 and the Desiel Dually gets 4.10 gears.
for SRW F-250 & F-350 they get the same rear end (Dana 70 I belive).
The F-350 Dually & F-450 get a bigger rear end.
And F-550 is in a class of it's own. It gets an even larger rear end.
Since 2002 the F250 & F350 have the same axles, and springs. Only difference between F250 & F350 is the 4" rear blocks on F350 & 2" on F250. In addition the GVWR sticker on the door frame is 8800 Lb. F250 & 9900 Lb F350. Go to the FAQ at the top of the Super Duty forum for all specs.
