Howdy Y'all I just bought a 1987 Ford F250 w/ a 6.9 Diesel. What i am wondering is does any body know how to decode the VIN #. I would like to see what trans it has. I think it is a 3 speed auto but it may be a 4 that isn't shifting? Either way i would like to find a 5 speed manual.
Thanks for the help
Kirk
Look in your driver's door pillar there should be a label that has the VIN#, axle code, body type, transmission code, etc. The eighth letter tells you engine type.
Y 4.9 EFI 300CID I-6CYL GAS ( MANUFACTURED BY) FORD
N 5.0 EFI 302CID V-8 GAS FORD
H 5.8 EFI 351 V-8 GAS FORD
M 7.3(D) 445 V-8 DIESEL NAVISTAR
G 7.5 EFI 460 V-8 GAS FORD
I HAVE M AND MY 88 F-250 DOES THE SAME THING. EVERYTHING ELSE IS GOOD SO FAR. GAS MILAGE 13-15MPG, COLD AIR, ETC.
