"Thier" theory is JOE BLOW tech could turn a bunch of higher profit jobs in say a 10 hour period that they are other wise tied up on a big job. So instead of turning 15-20 hours in that time they only turn 12 on a big engine job. So they charge the customer 80 dollars per hour for the 12 hours instead of 65.00. They DONT however compensate the technician who was tied up and whom also "lost" time. The technician isnt happy about it either way, because the higher flat rate may put the job out of reach for the customer to afford and he may lose the job to the guy down the street, and he feels the shop should cut him a premium labor rate because he feels if the shop should be compensated for that time, that the tech should also be compensated.
There are many things the customer never sees behind the scenes. These shops cut the flat rate hours per job, jacked up the dollars per hour, and left the tech at the same labor rate for example. Its called involuntary wage reduction while keeping profits high.
Good stuff here..........I have known techs that could flag 60 to 80 hours a week...very good for the dealership....no so for them...this was years ago, thought it might have changed
The problem is Flat rates. If the tech is good, he can do the 1 hour flat rate job in 30 minutes, so he doubles the profit to the dealer. I just had the ground strap recall done. I was noticing that the truck seemed to labor when starting in the morning, like a low battery. Since the recall, no problem
Good news. spoke with the service manager today. He says he sees no problem with the HFCM plug being replaces under warranty. Also the parts came in for the ground strap recall and they are going to do that work today also. Saves me from taking the truck back later this month
We were lucky. We just got the very North edge of the eye wall. I live on the East Coast, between Daytona and jacksonville, about 5 miles from the Ocean as the crow flies. The eye of the storm passed thru between Daytona and Flager Beach, about 25 miles South of us, and we suffered very little damage. I had the tops break out of 6 or 7 very large oak trees, and another 5 or 6 "water oaks" break off about 20 feet above ground, but nothing hit any of our buildings and the people and animals all faired well. It did take all day Saturday with 2 chain saws and a front end loader with rake to move all the debris, but that's why john Deere makes those things.
Picked up the truck around 6 PM yesterday. They didn't just replace the plug they replaced the entire head unit on the HCFM (the metal plate that holds the plug.) looks like they may have replaced a couple of hoses too. Under warranty No charge.
They also got the part in for the recall and took care of that too.
Now I am happy
