I think I'm gonna trade my ex. cab in on a regular cab... the extra 3 feet over my 86 is taking one heck of alot of getting used to...

I have a '01 Super Cab XL, Long Bed, V10, 5-Speed. I picked it up earlier this year with 17K miles for the amazing price of $13,000. I think somebody must have special ordrered it as I saw none with this set up in the DFW area when I was looking at new Super Dutys earlier this year. I was looking at ordering exactly the same thing so I feel kind of lucky that I found it. My last truck was a '95 regular cab F150 XL. The XL package is really all I want in a truck. I like having no carpet to get muddy, no power windows or mirrors to mess up, a manual trans. that lets ME decide what gear to use. To me, that's what a truck is supposed to be. Mine does have the cloth buckets but no console - just a lot of space between the two seats. So much room that an adult can move easily from the front to the back without leaving the truck. Kind of like moving from the recliner to go lay on the couch! I have made a few mods - replaced the factory stereo and speakers with Pioneer equipment, replaced the pizza cutter factory steel wheels and tires with some '04 Lariat factory take-offs, added a UWS black diamond plate low-profile toolbox and put in a Flowmaster Cat-Back system. I still can't believe the price I paid for the truck and adding the exact upgrades that I want is a lot of fun and cheaper that paying for the XLT package that includes oiptions I don't want. Next on the list is maybe a replacement front bumper to replace the black painted one on the truck now, then maybe some upgraded headlights/taillights. IMHO the XL package gives you the most bang for the buck. I thnk the regular cab long beds look cool as well.

04 XL F250 4X4 Reg. cab. The only complaint that I have about mine is the cassette player. I can't believe they still put them in there. When was the last time that you bought a cassette? For me it was about ten years ago. I asked them if they could put in an 8-track instead.:-)
Other than that I'm happy with my choice.

For me I love the reqular cabs, they make since unless you'll also be using the truck for haulling a crew or family around in it on a normal basis. my thing is I have to have an 8ft bed for hauling around plywood and drywall, plus I have a tool box back there for my tools, that I wouldn't want in my cab subcab or not.

I too am considering a basic '05 regular cab SuperDuty. I don't like the fact pickup trucks are being feminized to suit the tastes of women and little kids and guys who think they need to be pampered. I've been driving pickups since 1975. Back then they were all about utility and every ******** and his brother didn't have one, so the idea spending $35,000 plus for one would have seemed absurd. The situation today is truly rediculous what with Lincoln and Caddy producing gussied up pimp mobiles on pickup platforms. Makes about as much sense as the low carb diet fad. When I get a new regular cab, it will probably be my last truck as I doubt regular cabs will be around much longer. After that they will become collector items. Whether or not I order a diesel has been undecided. I currently get 16.8 mpg with my '96 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 equipped with a 5.9 V-8 Magnum. I wonder if a PowerStroke diesel can do much better than that.

Talking Regular cabs....

Thanks for all the comments. Now ... 4x4 is the only way to go and I want my gears to be 3.73 and I need to think about the engine. Either the 6.0 PSD or V-10. I am still believing that the three-valve v-10 will get better fuel ratings than the two-valve version. I hope 1 to 2 MPG better. I can live with a 16-17 MPG highway V-10.... Whatcha thinkin' ?

Exclamation Sorry !.....

I just have this hangup on the MPG thing. The pay-up front thing (hi-cost of diesel motor) or pay thru the nose thing (horrendous mileage). It has me in great concern (read- panties in an uproar...). I'd luv a big V10, but not at 11-13 MPG highway, gas here, $2.20 gal. for the cheap stuff, and I figure it won't get any better as the years pass...

Up front your V-10 may be cheaper, the Diesel will hold a higher retail value in the later years. I have never driven a V-10 so I can not steer you in your decision. At least you will have a nice Ford truck.

Don't want to get too far into this. Try searching on this topic and you'll find all the arguments pro and con....repeated ad nausium.

I do want to correct your highway mpg figure. Two buddies and one "friend of a friend" are driving F350 4x4 SC V-10's. Each report 16 mpg on the highway. The Super Duty FAQ lists AVERAGE mpg for the V-10 as 12. Obviously, you have to get much better than 11-13 mpg on the highway in order to average 12 mpg.
