Talking Regular cabs

I have been thinking about getting an '05 F250 SD PSD XL in a regular cab. I like the simplicity of manual windows, bucket seats, etc. I don't have to carry every Tom, Dick, or Harry around, and when I add a shell to the bed, I can secure larger items.
Anyone here own a regular cab and / or XL model ? Give me your pros and cons, please....

I love my regular cab...I do have the XLT package..so there is some good stuff. I like it because I can easily turn around and see the 5th wheel ball in the bed when hooking up the gooseneck..in addition, I only have to cart one other person around...so that makes it easier to pick/choose!

My brother had an XL PSD, I drove it for a week one time and I hated reaching over and unrolling the passenger side window to get air. Its a long reach to get to the other door.

I'm on my second regular cab pickup. It's extremely rare for me to have more than two passengers, so the extra seating isn't a concern.

A buddy of mine bought a supercab so his dogs can ride in the back seat. My German Shepherds are way too big for that. They ride in the back and poke their heads through the back window when they want to visit or request a stop. If I had a supercab, they wouldn't be able to reach me to give me a big, sloppy kiss on the cheek

I have thought it would be nice to have the extra cab space for more secure tool storage. But knowing my house cleaning habits, that space would soon be crammed full of crap.

I just wouldn't realize any of the typical benefits of the extended cab, but would have to deal with the turning radius and parking problems.

Finally, I just like the look of the regular cabs better.

It's another one of those personal preference things. The vast majority of trucks I see are supercabs, and I'm sure those folks are happy with their choice. But the regular cab was the right choice for me.

As far as the XL, I bought the XLT for the goodies. I like the remote entry and power windows.

Regular cab here. I bought a truck, not a family sedan. I bought the XL, rightly figuring that I could add all the extras I wanted for a fraction of the cost of buying an XLT, or Lariat. As for extra storage space, that is why they make and I have a crossover tool box

Regular cab XLT here. I bought mine used with 9 thousand miles on the truck. I have always bought regular cabs and now I am one of the chosen few among trucks. I am usually the only one in the truck 99.9% of the time. It has enough room to get my big butt around to where I want to go.

Although I have a crew cab long bed, I wish that I had a regular can when going to Wall Mart. The crews are hard to park, I just usually head out to the corner of the lot and park. Besides, I think the regular cab trucks are much more handsome that the others.

I currently have an 01 V10 4x4 CC longbed. I wouldn't trade it for anything, however I plan on picking up a regular cab longbed with another V-10 for plowing and just plain motoring down the road. The CC is our family vehicle, we leave the wife Explorer at home and use my truck for everything.

Like I mentioned tho I want a regular F-350 with the V-10 for the shear power of this motor in a reg cab version and for plowing. I would recommend buying the XLT version so you don't have mess around with upgrading to the nice to haves of power windows and such. When you compare the prices they probably aren't much of a difference to get the power windows/locks options.
The single biggest reason I wouldn't buy the XL model is the seat! The cost to replace this expensive. Riding around on a vinly cheap bench seat makes for a bad driving experience. As well as the manual window thing. Maybe the first few months wil be satisfying for simplicity but in the end you will probably kick yourself in the butt.

I agree the reg cabs look better, but....some of us have kids and the supercab or crew cab is so much better for hauling little tykes around in their carseats. My truck is my work truck, errand runner, family hauler and tow vehicle so I do enjoy the utility of the extra cab space. If I was a single guy with no kiddies I'd have gotten the reg cab. It is nice to be able to fold up the rear seats if you need to haul big stuff inside. I have a toolbox too so I have no shortage of storage space at all!

I don't mind the looks of the supercab but I think the crew cab looks too long. No matter what you like you have to agree it's nice Ford offers the 3 different choices.

In my case, I did not want power windows. Simple reason, I am in and out of the truck so much, when it rains, switches get wet. I fried 3 on my 97 F150 in the 6 years I owned it. Plus, I guess I don't mind leaning over and cranking a window, only takes a few seconds. My seat isn't vinyl, it is a kind of a heavy tweed cloth. I didn't even think they made vinyl anymore... maybe so. My XL came with speed (cruise) control, tilt wheel and AM/FM/CD stereo. It came with grey steel wheels with hub caps. I bought the factory option Ford premium alloy wheels, a $1200.00 option by the way, off of ebay for $220.00. They were still in the box's, brand new. I spent all of $18.00 for a set of new Ford cab marker lights at Cabellas, (with a coupon) $35.00 Cabellas regular price, which took me less than an hour to install. Ford price, $160.00. I bought the rear marker lights that come standard on duallies for $8.00 at Wallyworld, took maybe 5 minutes to install. Ford dealer wanted $73.00. With all the money I saved so far, I bought a Whipple supercharger. And, If I want another seat, I have a friend that is an independant car dealer that can get me a Ford 60/40 bench with console for $110.00. Granted, it is probably from a salvage yard but........? Oh, I forgot to mention, I bought the truck new last July. As of today, my pay off is $14,003. Some $7,000 under book (private party). That isn't adding on the things I have put on it.

Myself I have owned both reg and supercabs,, being self-employed in construction, for me only way to go is supercab, plus I have 2-sons,,,but with the super cab, some tools can go behind the seat,,coats, gloves, boots, cooler,,whatever,,,, no pile of stuff on the seat,, and with my 04' F-350, XLT,,it has pockets in the doors, no more junk on the dash,,which I always hated. My 2 XL's never had them (door pockets that is) when I purchased the truck made them install a sliding rear window,,with 8' bed and cap on the back I can carry up to 14', (light) trim,, boards,, whatever and close the back cap door,, , plus I also plow, with the supercab it is still pretty manuverable,,crew-cab I would say must be kinda long for plowing.

Buy what ya want,,I know what works best for me, and thats the super-cab !

later,,,,,,,,,,,Mark

When I ordered my F350 XL CC my biggest concern was the seat. They have a buttload of options for them though. I ended up going with the vinyl 40/20/40 for an extra $340. It actually is pretty nice. I get in my truck sweaty and dirty 10+ times a day and I knew the cloths seats were just a plain bad idea for me. I have the hose-it-out ability and still have a pretty nice seat at the same time. For anyone looking at XL's, check that seat out, and the buckets they offer too.
