I generaly add refrigerant as i have my hand on the suction line coming out of the evaporator(the big line) i add vapor(can in upright posotion) add untill the line gets beer can cold not a little cold but dam cold that should be your stopping point ,add no more but make sure your condensor is clean bugs and dirt can cause hight head pressures good luck
