Ordering a shotgun

OK, I know what I want to buy, I know I will be hardpressed to find it in a gunstore, so how do I go about ordering it? I guess I would want to order it from the company who makes it (remington).

Here is what I want

Remington 870 wingmaster
3.5" magnum
26 inch barrel
wooden stock/finish
full choke

I think thats all the info they would need to make it, right?

also, what is 'porting' or 'venting'

Thanks,
Shawn

You are probably better to have a gun store order it for you. You will have to have it shipped to someone with a federal firearms license anyhow to complete the paperwork.

im not totally sure, but i think porting is where the end of the barrel is vented to make the gun have less recoil. im not sure how it works, but im pretty sure thats what it is. i think it releases the gasses faster or something.

Not intending to steal the thread or anything, but I find parents like you to be very cool. I came over to meet my ex's parents and he had his gun collection out, cleaning it. I sat down and started helping him. She and I aren't together anymore, but he loves me like a son.

That would make a great shotgun for anything you decide to do. Any Remington dealer will be able to order this gun for you, if they say they can't then look elsewhere. I would shy away from Wal-Mart and other dept. stores, I've heard bad stories of people getting factory seconds guns at Wal-Marts and such. As far as teh choke you should get three with a Wingmaster, adn IC, MOD and a Full. I fyou are just wanting a Full only barrel thengo on ebay and you can find one cheaper there than anywhere.
Porting of the barrel is a process of venting the barrel to reduce recoil.

it's not quite as easy to get hold of a firearm over here they make you sit a test to prove you ain't gonna shoot yourself in the foot and then they ring a whole lot of people and get their opinion of you and want to know if you deal drugs or any other illegal ****e like that. a sword you can just go down to the local chinese market and buy one for NZ$60 (won't cut through warm pie) i spent a couple of grand on mine and have cuts to prove it, however a good rifle is all good when i can go 10 mins up the road and go shoot me some possums or a pig. another option is always a compound bow those things are nasty....

anyways sorry for hijacking the thread the shotgun your after sounds pretty wicked post a pic when you manage to get one
cheers -
you can have your plane back

I shoot alot of sporting clays and porting the barrels reduce muzzle jump or recoil. they let out the gas at the sides of the barrel. it makes you get on your second target faster because the jump and recoil are reduced. its not really necessary unless your gonna be using the gun for competition shooting.

Up to You

If you want the gun "sight unseen", any reputible firearms dealer can order it for you from his "jobber", and charge a fee, or just charge retail for the gun. I ordered my Beretta double that way, the dealer simply sent my certified bank check to them, and they sent the shotgun to the dealer. Since it was purchased out-of-state, there was no sales tax, so shipping and the dealer's fee was the only extra cost.

This 'site unseen' thing you speak of intrigues me. I assume you mean having it not registered in my name? That would be ideal for later in life when the government decides that guns are bad and trys to take them all away... right, anyways.. maybe thats not what you mean.

I'm going to be using this mostly for duck and geese (note the 3 1/2 inch mag part ;-)) hunting, although I'm sure I will eventualy do my share of turkey and quail hunting as well.

No, I just meant buying the gun before you have seen it, commitment to the purchase without examining it beforehand, like I did with my Beretta.

Yea, I'm in the states (Arizona). I have been looking around gunbroker.com (it's like ebay, but for guns!) and havent seen one yet :-\

On gunbroker the sellers can only ship to people with an FFL in case you didn't know.
