Talking Buildup of 351W

I am going to build my truck up, first is the motor, Ive got an edelbrock performer upper and lower intake, a bbk twin 61mm throttle body, a pulley kit from bbk, thats it so far. But Id like to get some heads, I was thinking of ford racing performance parts "z" aluminum heads-complete, or trick flow heads, a crane cam truck cam, an electric dual fan setup from flex-a-lite, a new rad from griffen, headers from heddman with ceramic coating, msd 6 series offroad ignition box, an msd billet distributor, new valvecovers and some other small stuff. I also will need larger fuel injectors, stock I think is 19 but I was going to go to at least 24 if not 30 lb/hour, what do you think would be better? How do you determine the amount of lb/hour the motor will need? How do you think this setup will work? Im looking to get some hp out of it plus torque. If it isnt enough Ill put a vortech on top. Is there a place where I can find step by step instructions to do all of this? In a ford book im guessing? I can do it but Ive never had to do this by myself without a more experienced person helping. Any suggestions and comments would be great, thanks for your time--Dinty01

fordfuelinjection does have some good info, your right tgrabak. There are a few 'calculators" on racesystems.com website too, I think theres one for injector sizing. They furnished the computer for my 94F150 for the 393 stroker in it.

You'll find a few books in our motorhaven store about ford's EFI...really good books to read.

The injector size is determined by hp made.

Post #7 talks about injector sizing. I would forget the trick flow heads...and suggest you get some AFR heads instead. That setup should net you around 350-365hp.

I think the combo you picked is fine...but remember that if you ever want to supercharge the engine, make sure the engine is setup for it. You'd need 8-8.5:1 compression and forged pistons are best. Just make sure your bottom end is able to handle a supercharger, and your current plans as well.

I have to say I am a diehard FE guy, but I am pretty impresses by the windsors (302, 351). In general does a windsor have good low end compared to a FE?

Hey Mustang, I think the AFR heads are a great head, but I surely would not discredit the Trick Flow, they're flow numbers are right up there and they are a high quality build. I have ran the Trick Flows on two different engines now and have had excellent results with them, as have many others.

Thanks for the replies, I think Im going to have someone build my motor since I dont have the time and enough expertise to do it IMO, so I have a guy lined up to get an estimate this week, and Im gonna check with him about the heads, injectors and cam. I also want him to rebuild my e40d and maybe add a MAF conversion-maybe-I like the SD system though. I also saw trucks today on spike and they had gale banks on there with his new twin turbo kits and now Im rethinking everything . . .
