To all you guys with predators, is safe to keep the tuner in the truck as long as it isnt extremely hot or cold? Does the bouncing hurt it, or should I keep it wraped in a towel? The truck is my toy and also a back up to haul cars if my big truck breaks or if I have just one or two to deliver instead of using the 10 car rig. In other words I dont always plan on when I use it for towing and people other than myself may be getting the truckand using it, so it would be better for me to have the tuner in the truck to bump it down to the tow setting. Is it safe to do so?
I think I may have been the first to get my predator from here on 1-15-04 or so ?
Since then, I've kept it in the middle storage box of my excursion...
(for a multitude of reasons, some of which you listed... )
thus far no issues, and I would think the Texus heat is a good test bed for it...
only protection I've done for it is to leave the thin membrane over the display to keep scratches off of it... good idea to cushion it with a towel... if for nothing else than to quiet it down on bumps
I would think the electronics (like any pc hardware) can handle the temps, just wouldn't leave it on the dash where the sun could add to it
Might be a good question for the folks at diablosport.com
I have been keeping mine under the back seat. It is in the original box. I have a extended cab. So far it seems to have been ok. I pulled it out to restore the original flash, upload the r34f release and then upload the 65HP program to the truck. Everything was fine. I have been offroad with it. It must get over 150 in their during the day. Good ol' Texas sunshine.
Thanks guys, I normallyleave it in the 65 hp mode so other people should not get there hands on it in the 100 hp mode. Actually I have not had it in the high hp mode yet, the truck only has 800 or so miles on it. But I am looking forward to that.
When I got my Predator one of my concerns was the heat in the cab , so I e-mailed DiabloSport and they said there was no problem keeping the unit in the cab of the truck even in 95 degree Nevada heat .
Thanks MD... that's what I presumed too... but my diff may be that the all black Ex in the Texus sun seems to add 100 degrees to mine

and seems some of you feel the 65 vs 100 hp is such a jump in the performance.... s to suggest it is "safer" in the 65hp mode ? Is that what I'm sensing...
Sorry, this 65hp mode will get someone not used to it in REAL trouble REAL fast too
I've not done any testing, but the 65hp is such a dramatic change from stock that I don't feel the jump to the 100HP is as radical a change....
I guess it's time to do some timed runs or a dyno run to back up the 100hp mode dynos...
I have only had mine in the tow and 65HP mode. First time I loaded the 65 mode, I scared the heck out of myself real quick. You can spin the wheels real fast with fishtail and all that fun stuff which is ok if you are expecting it. I didn't think you could do that with a F250SD until I loaded the Predator.
SBV,
I know that I couldn't spin mine before! And now - Whoa Nellie! Haven't even TRIED the 100 yet! (Ummm, that is, if I HAD any power enhancements, which OF COURSE I don't Right Mama Ford?)
Try keeping it in your console (if you have Captains Chairs)
I have noticed that the inside of my console will stay quite a bit cooler than the rest of the interior of the truck. Must just be the placement/location in the cab. You can open it and stick your hand in, and it will be 20-25 degrees cooler.
If you have an aluminum toolbox, keep it in there, and lock it. I keep my SCMT in the toolbox, and since it is metallic, it reflects sunlight and generally stays fairly cool. I keep it in there with my spare turbo, a spare boost tube (with my water nozzles still stuck in it) my water injection system, and a box full of tools
