thanks guys.. I'll check out your suggestions tommorrow
a class V is rated at 14,000lbs. ur gvw is much less than that. also if u are planning on towing that much weight with single rear tires and no air bags, ur in for a real white knuckle ride.
the "adapter" for the 2.5" reciever is horrible!!! it lets the reciever flop all over the place. and if u use the 2" and adapter it defeats the purpose of the class V!!!! u will have to buy the 2.5" solids for upwards of 75 bucks.
i hate to sound condescending, but honestly, get the class IV.... ull be glad u didnt waste ur money
BTW, i am speakin from experience, as i have a Reese V on my 550...

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
For $250 shipped seems like a great price... anyone have experience w/ Curt Mfg?
This one from Drw-Tite would be second choice as I am going for maximum capacity - http://www.hitch-web.com/proDescrip....e=314966&OID=8
The beefiest one for my truck from Reese is rated at only 7500lbs - http://www.hitch-web.com/proDescrip....e=314882&OID=8

I was thinking of buying a titan hitch because I tow a pintle hitch equipment trailer that is loaded to the 12,500# rated capacity of my truck. I hook up and disconnect the trailer too many times a day to worry about weight distribution bars, so I thought that the bigger hitch which has a larger weight carrying capacity would be better for my truck. It looks like the hitch attaches further forward on the frame, so the stress is spread out over more of the frame and less likely to cause damage to the truck.
You mentioned that using the 2" adapter that fit quality is poor, but with 2.5" receiver is the fit and finish good? Some of my hauling is off-road so I am not worried about the legalities of weight restrictions and may tow more like 14,000#+ over rough terrain, so I am looking for a good quality hitch. Is the Titan receiver good overall product?
I suppose this question could be over in the towing forum, but since it's already started here....
with dual wheels the titan is a good choice, but with the singles, its pretty precarious when there's much weight back there.
the problem with 12-15K on a bumper hitch and singles is there is more weight behind the ball than in front. when u jack the brakes in an emergency stop, the wobbley rear end can easily let the high weight on the trailer push the rear of the truck to one side causing an obvious problem......
also the rear is pushed down as the front is picked up which can engage the abs when the fronts slide from the bigger brakes. and the trailer brakes dont activate as fast as u may think. even with the prodigy.
to all who are asking my opinion.....if u gotta haul more than 10,000lbs, u need to be usin a goose neck. the bumper hitch just isnt safe up there
are there really many bumper hitch trailers out there with a 16,000lb rating?? the biggest one i've ever seen was a big car trailer that had a 9000 rating
With a gooseneck trailer, you are also less likely to have friends ask to borrow it because most trucks don't have gooseneck hitches. BTW, the bigger bumperpull hydraulic dump trailers I have been looking at are 14,000#+ and come equipped with load range G tires.
