How reliable was the 1969-72 Mercury Marquis?

Didn't the 1969 Mercury Marquis replace the Parklane?

Was the Mercury Montclair supposed to be Ford's version of the Ford LTD?

What a small world! That dealer and his wife in Redding were friends of my folks. On our way back from Klamath Falls, we stopped by to visit and wound up buying her '70 Marquis Brougham. It was a 4 dr post with everything on it you could get back then, I think. Auto Climate Control, AM/FM Stereo (a first for us), power everything, tilt/cruise, and that odd rim-blow steering wheel. Funky color- beige with a dark green top and interior. Had a trunk the size of a U-Haul, and a lot more power than it had traction. (could make some spectacular burnouts- I was in HS at the time )

The next year we had German relatives come visit, and they were awe-struck by that car. As I recall, it was pretty bulletproof (hey, I never managed to break it!). The gas-crunch hit around their normal trading time, so the folks decided to keep driving it instead of giving it away. Engine finally went somewhere north of 150k miles and the car got traded for a '79 Cadillac. Sniff.

Going down to Arizona soon to purchase a 71 Mercury Marquis, 429, 4 bbl, c-6 trans, 4 door, reasonable interior, brown w/ a vinyl top, small dents along the drivers side, older couple owns it, and for sale for $500.00.
My intensions are to pull the motor and trans, and install them in a 70 swb 2-wd.
Anyone want the body???
Whats the body worth???

I wish that I can get a 1971 Mercury Marquis for $500, those cars were powerful and they had alot of torque.

Didn't John Candy drive a mid 70's Mercury Marquis (I call it the 'buckmobile') on Uncle Buck?

Anyways wasn't the 1969-72 Mercury Marquis based on the Lincoln Continental from the same era? I've always preferred the Marquis over the Continental although they're both really nice cars, plus doesn't the Marquis get noticeably better gas mileage than the Continental? I think that my favorite year of the Marquis is 1971, I wish that they weren't so rare.

Pale yellow with dark green top and interior. I'd like to get it but afraid I'm not going to be able to. If you'd be interested, let me know and I'll see if I can get you in touch with the guy.

The '69 Marquis was originally designed as the new Continental- there was a Connie prototype floating around in '63-'64 that had a front end that was a dead-ringer for the Marquis.

My uncle in the 70's had a turquoise one that he sold for parts to some friend of his.
A neighbor down from my place has a Dk. green 2 dr for parts. It had been sitting since 1976. The front clip is gone and the motor and trans. I have some pics on it now. The car is rusty. The surprise is the windsheild is still good and the interior seats are still intact( no tears and it is a floral pattern cloth seats. He has to get rid of it. Along with the other 70 cars he has. Had a heartattack and wants to sell his place next year and move back to the city.
Fomoko1 another FTE member, I was just at his place 2 weeks ago getting na Econoline van body from him. He also had a 69 Mercury 4dr sitting there in the trees along with a 68 Parklane wagon and a 65 4dr sedan. He plans on getting rid of them also.
These are only good as donor cars, maybe restoration projects to those who really like to restore them.
I would post the pictures on the reply, but do not know how to do so. Still lots to learn how to work the computer.

Today I saw a really nice well maintaned 1972 Mercury Marquis, it's a turquoise with a white top and it's such a beautiful car, it's owned by an elderly couple and I wish that they still made cars like this today.
