well i have made some decisions after a little research i believe im gonna go with cordless drill and rec. saw atleast 18v (hopefully combo set for the interchangable batteries) a 4 or 4.5" grinder (prolly cheap one) and then i'll see from there

the only thing is that it seems kinda pointless to have a cordless rec. saw and a grinder with a cord.... has anyone seen cordless grinders?

beasty,

just a heads up, places like home depot and lowes always have discount tables, and you can usually find returns or refurbished power tools on them, thats where I got my 4 1/2 dewalt angle grinder, my 6" table grinder, my 8" table vise, and various other power tools, I am a big dewalt person, so I too have the 18v dewalt combo. cant beat it for 500 bucks, but I see at sears, they have a combo for 300 dollars less, might be who of you to go look at sears with there discount racks too, also flea markets and garage sales although full of alot of junk, sometimes contain hidden treasures, like my nearly brand new drill press, table saw, and bandsaw. Just some pointers, and as far as hand tools go, my first set was a 400piece set of AC Delco tools that I got from walmart when my ex wife worked there for 50 dollars, even came with a rollaway toolchest, I still have them, garunteed for life too, of course now over time, my craftsman collection out weighs them greatly. But as you go, you will start a collection, definetly get the basics, oil filter wrench, oil drain pan, creeper,(jegs has a creeper and a seat for like 40bucks, way good deal) brake tools are a must, a good floor jack and jack stands are a must. and of course we would all be lost without our trusted trouble light

yeah i think i have all the basics and some of the specail ones to (ICM tool, locknut spanner socket, etc) but a jack is something ive been looking for because i have big tires normal jacks are not tall enough so i got a old one im gonna mount a block of 6x6 to it to get some height
i dont have room to keep a creeper as nice as it would be to have i really dont have room for a rec saw too but they are just to much fun i gotta have one

ps dewalt is nice i will prolly get there grinder but i do have my eye on that drill/rec saw 19.2 volt combo at sears less than $200 (i worry about the power of the rec saw though)

went right home and cut through an old 3/8" high density drill bit with the rec saw i have never had one before now i can tell i will be TRYING to find things to cut!!!!!

Stay away from the cheap bargain stuff made in china. When you are removing a rusty fastener only a quality socket or wrench is going to perform well.
The cheaper bargain stuff could be used as a secondary or back-up.

I say unless you just do not have an electrical source skip the battery drill, a cheap corded drill will out work the best bat unit. On the grinder I have burnt up many and broken some so far I like the makita and the dewalt but ryobi has a nice one for the price but the switch is a little fragile.

Not all hand tools are = for most any set will work but you that does not mean there is a difference. When I was turning wrenches for a living many times I removed bolts with a MAC wrench that the guy next to me had rounded off with a Craftsman wrench but I would not spend the money on MAC or Snap On now because I don't use them enough but if your broke down you will be cussing you cheap crappy tools if they don't work. I have broken many sockets and stripped many ratchets so they are worth spending money on.
A good volt meter is a must have as are ez outs and a good selection of pliers, vise grips in a few shapes, channel locks and cutting pliers and hammers!!!! got to have BIG hammers

My Craftsman electric impact wrench has not yet failed to remove a nut or bolt that I've been able to get it on to.
